Our team in Greenland continues with its steady advance along the Arctic Circle Trail. Today they are pushing ahead toward the direction of Sissimiut, approximately 80 kilometres away. They are almost exactly at the halfway point of their expedition.
Late last night, our guide Manu Poudelet called via Iridium satellite phone to proudly share that the hardy group had progressed an additional 24 kilometres yesterday under clear skies and in soft temperatures that hovered around -5°C. By the time they set up their evening camp, the air became slightly more frigid with the temperature eventually dropping to -15°C. The lack of any significant wind made for comfortable conditions.
Last night's camp position:

W 51.9689
Once in camp, our participants moved efficiently through their evening routine which included cooking a refreshing hot dinner. They also are enjoying delicious Belgian chocolate each day thanks to the generosity of Callebaut.
Today the team is now moving steadily toward a special goal: they are hoping to sleep in a hut tonight. The Arctic Circle Trail is often used by local hunters who have established a series of rudimentary shelters along the length of this remote path between Sissimiut and Kangerlussuaq. After having slept for the past few nights in tents, each participant is looking forward to the slight upgrade for their rest and rejuvenation.
The weather predictions for tomorrow continue to offer sunny, splendid conditions. There is a bit of snow in the forecast for Sunday, but we will of course wait and see if this materialises.
