Day 3 - Wolf's Fang to Whichaway
2021-12-01

Over the last 24 hours there has been little progress for Joke and Henk-Jan. The severe headwinds have prohibited them from leaving their campsite, one that they established after an unsuccessful attempt to progress with their kites last night.

While they were able to hoist their kites in the air, they only progressed 500 metres from their earlier campsite before choosing for safety and reestablishing a new haven to wait out the stormy conditions. Henk-Jan reported winds of 35 knots gusting to 45 knots.

Today, Henk-Jan gave us the following update:

Yesterday we progressed via man-haul with crampons over ice fields. Joke had to get used to her crampons but this worked out fine after a while. After 3 hours we took a long lunch break and set up the kites. After we launched them, the wind diminished. So, we had to pack them away and launch a bigger kite. This all takes a lot of time and energy, especially since we were dealing with head winds coming from 100 degrees. We had a hard time to even keep on our same line of kiting. After 4 hours we decided to put up the tent.

Today there is a hard wind with gusts of 45 knots. We are waiting for a new weather report and then will make our strategy for the day. For now, let's make the best of it. After playing a game of Uno, we adapted the rules and now we can play Rumicub with Uno cards. We call it Unocub ;)

By the way, Joke won.

For those of you with a keen eye, you'll notice that our 2 Dutch adventurers brought along their home country flag, as well as a Belgian flag to honour Dixie, to decorate their campsite. Nice touch!
